I really like it. And, I never thought I’d say that about a Corolla.

[insert obligatory “why no wagon SAD” opinion]
Anyway, moving on. Yes! It looks... perplexingly good.

In a very Toyota way it’s probably going to have an ancient 1.4 NA making 100 and meh horsepower and a CVT.
But yes, it looks astoundingly good.

It will apparently make 164hp and will be available with a 6-speed man-WELL

I don’t care for the dual exhaust tips so hopefully the aftermarket world steps up with a louder single-tip and a different bumper garnish to hide one of the original exhaust holes. I really hope TRD sells a suspension and swaybar kits like they did for the Corolla along with an exhaust. I like how the old one sounded with a TRD system in it.

It’s good to see manufacturers taking hatches seriously again in North America. Only compact car I know of on sale now that doesn’t have a hatch variant is the Sentra (and we’ll probably see an updated one with a hatch soon enough). Compare that to 10 years ago when basically the only compact hatches you could get in North America were the Golf and the Matrix.

So it’s a hatchback with no place to put things in the back? The hatch opens and you have 6" of cargo area then the rear seats? It’s terrible. It is less functional than a sedan and that profile view shows how dumb the rear is.

I’m unsure as to whether that’s higher or lower than a CVT on The Great Automatic Transmission scale

I like it as well, could be a someday replacement when the Solara eventually gets tired of living. Which won’t hopefully won’t happen for happen for another 200,000 miles, it’s at 214,000-ish now so......

What I think is weird is that it has the face and tail lamps of the RAV4 from a few years ago so it’s like Toyota is starting to have a cohesive family look.... then they release a new RAV4 with a different face just after this comes out. Weird.

It looks small—smaller than the outgoing iM/Auris—but I like how simple, functional and modern the styling went.
Europeans really do styling better.

In Toyota speak, it’s base model transmission if you can’t drive stick. CVT for the limited edition, complete with 7 virtual gears.
